Giving you a wonderful life before your eyes

>> video(colour, sounds) & paper cut collage (34.5 x 47 cm x 9)

The artwork is composed of video and paper collage.

The video work dedicates to the mission of ORBIS which eliminates unnecessary blindness – “giving you a wonderful life before your eyes”, from rubbing off a piece of realistic B&W pencil drawing to the creating the colourful paper-cut collage work.

“Erasing” is also a method of art creation. It is easily to associate with the famous work of Robert Rauschenberg – “Erasing de Kooning drawing”. In 1953, Rauschenberg asked Williem de Kooning, an important master in Abstract Expressionism at that time, to have one of his drawings. Rauschenberg explained that he wanted to erase it. That creative action was not just only inconceivable, also giving us a broader view of art.

“Paper-cut” is the final making method, so a series of paper-cut collage works would become part of this creation. Like Henri Matisse’s paper-cut art is colour-oriented, colour papers are tailored to various shapes to make a collage, turning the realistic things to a picture with simple shapes and pure colours. There are no shading and perspective techniques being used to compose a colour-based visual image. Liberating from all kind of traditional forms and related aesthetics, an alternative drawing way has been proposed. As Rauschenberg challenging Abstract Expressionism, it shows us the image creation not just only being made with paintbrush.

Furthermore, paper-cut works usually aim to use the simplest colours and lines, the pictures are full of cheerful and optimistic spirit which is so match the image of ORBIS.
