How to define painting under the diverse and complex Contemporary art context? This wok attempt to present so called “painting” that are not commonly seen. This painting work was composed with 8 pieces of paintings with unsymmetrical display arrangement or non-horizontal hanging way. Also, it was no primed completely and there is a part not having been drawn completely. Moreover, the contents, for example, a “maneki-neko (beckoning cat)” without “bekoning paw”, a mug with breaking handles, a dice with 7 dots on one of faces, a pair of shoes of different sizes, a pencil sharpened with an extremely long lead, a painting only with doodling marks or some casual colour stains… etc. The entire work was in a paradoxical situation and ambiguity state, questioning some common or existing definitions.
This work participated “The 19th Macao Painting & Calligraphy Exhibition” in 2003. Due to participating in a “painting & calligraphy” exhibition, questiong what is painting?
